Service was temporarily suspended between Cinnaminson and Route 73 while Palmyra police were on scene as New Jersey Transit River Line workers checked signals at the crossing.
The interim school superintendent confirmed that the teen is a 15-year-old student in the district and was walking to soccer practice when it happened.
The district sent out a letter to parents and staff saying, "This news comes as a tremendous shock and we are still struggling with our own emotions as we try to comprehend what has occurred."
A post on the Borough of Palmyra's Facebook page also extended prayers and sympathies to the family.
The Burlington County School Crisis Response Team will be at Palmyra High School through Saturday for any students who need help. They will also be available on the first day of school.
