NEW CASTLE, Del. (WTXF) - A man driving a tractor-trailer with a freezer inside found out the hard way his truck couldn't make it under a Delaware bridge.
Delaware State Police say Talib Shabazz, 67 of Pennsylvania, was driving a 2005 Volvo Tractor Trailer in the right lane northbound on DuPont Parkway (US 13) south of Basin Road (SR 141). The tractor trailer was hauling a large freezer.
Then, just before 8am, he approached the bridge connecting W. Basin Road and E. Basin Road.
That's when "the freezer struck the bridge and caused the tractor trailer to come to an immediate stop in the right lane of N. DuPont Highway. The front portion of the freezer which struck the bridge was torn off causing debris to scatter across all three lanes of travel."
Police say Shabazz was not injured, but he was cited for inattentive driving.
The two right lanes of traffic around the crash are back open after two hours of investigation and clearing.
