Trailer with $750k worth of dimes broken into in parking lot of Northeast Philadelphia Walmart: police
Authorities say a parked trailer containing $750k in dimes was broken into overnight. Police found dimes scattered throughout the parking lot and down the street in the aftermath of the heist. They have not said how the thieves may have known that the trailer contained the money.
PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating after a tractor-trailer with thousands of dollars worth of dimes was broken into in a Walmart parking lot.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart located on Byberry Road in the Northeast Philadelphia section of the city.
Officials say the unmarked trailer, which contained approximately $750,000 in dimes and only secured with a padlock, was broken into overnight.
SKYFOX flew over the scene Thursday morning, where dimes could be seen scattered across an area of the parking lot.

Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith said the thieves tried to haul away the dimes by "cross loading" them, but some coins scattered in the parking lot and down the street.
"I don't think it's syndicated – like syndicated organized crime or anything – I think it's just a pattern of cargo thefts that I've been taking place over the last several months," Captain Ryan said.
Police say they do not know how much was taken from the truck or how the thieves knew the unsuspecting trailer contained the coins.
