University of Pennsylvania student tests positive for mumps

A University of Pennsylvania undergraduate student tested positive for mumps Monday, the school announced via email.

UPenn officials say that the student lives off-campus.

This announcement comes as Temple University recently saw their outbreak of probable cases of mumps reach triple digits. However, administrators say that public health officials do not believe the University of Pennsylvania case is connected to the Temple upsurge.

University of Pennsylvania now joins Temple and West Chester University as schools with at least one confirmed case of mumps.

UPenn officials urge students to avoid sharing food and drinks. Students who believe they may have contracted mumps should visit Student Health Services.
