Teen killed in West Philadelphia person of interest in murder of 12-year-old: sources

An Upper Darby teen shot and killed in West Philadelphia is alleged to be a person of interest in the murder of a 12-year-old boy found dead in a trash can, police sources say.

A street on West Philadelphia was the scene of a fatal shooting early Saturday morning, in which the victim was struck many times with gunfire.

The shooting happened on the 5500 block of Poplar Street about 1 a.m., officials said.

Responding officers found a young male, identified as 16-year-old Upper Darby resident Tysheer Shahe Hankinson, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he died.

Police sources tell FOX 29's Steve Keeley that the teen was a person of interest in the murder of 12-year-old Hezekiah Bernard, who was found shot to death in a trash can in West Philadelphia last week.

No further details were released regarding a potential connection between the alleged teen person of interest and 12-year-old boy.

No arrests have been made in either shooting.

Police say as with all homicides, there is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
