A Marine Corp veteran is on a mission to honor his brother and help veterans with mental illness with a long cross country journey.

Roy Wesley Brady Jr. began his trek is San Diego last March.

The gunnery sergeant wants to shed light on the growing number of vets suffering with mental health issues.

"My goal is to raise awareness for PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and the suicide rate.," Brady said. "We're dealing with 22 a day, alright? We need to get out and talk to each other, Veterans, we need to talk to veterans. We understand each other"

Brady has already suffered a devastating loss connected to mental illness. The brother he walks for was also a marine who committed suicide.

The sergeant is heading toward North Carolina, where his brother is buried.

He'll then complete his journey in New Jersey this September.
