Video: ATM blown up in Fishtown; suspect flees without any money

Philadelphia police are looking for the person who blew up an ATM in Fishtown overnight. Surveillance video outside Johnny’s Hots restaurant shows the moments before and after the explosion on North Delaware Avenue.

Luckily, police say no one was hurt. And, the bomber didn’t even get the money!

Bill Perez, a fan of Johnny’s Hots, stated, "It’s good. If you guys haven’t been here, you guys are missing out. You come here in the morning, this whole sidewalk is packed with cars. The parking lot, the street, you stand in line, maybe, 10 or 15 minutes."

Just off Columbia Avenue, Johnny’s Hots opens very early in the morning. Perez continues, "They got the best hot sausage. His wife makes the meatballs by hand every Saturday and they’re amazing. Good food, good people."

But, Thursday night, there was a big commotion outside. Neighbor Allen Cho explained the chaos, "It sounded way more catastrophic. Like a bomb. It was terrifying. Terrifying to hear that this is what it’s come down to."

Police say someone tried to blow up the ATM right outside the business and neighbors gave FOX 29 surveillance footage.

Cho commented, "Last night, around 1:30 in the morning, we just hear this loud boom and very noticeable. Thought it was a bomb and immediately outside, you can hear car alarms going and next thing you know, I am looking at my security footage and you can see someone in a masked figure running down the street."

The footage shows the ATM smoking and in more footage obtained by Fox 29, someone is running towards the ATM after the explosion.

Cho said, "The perpetrator was not next to the ATM at all. And either planted and or it was a device triggered via remote."

Luckily, no injuries were reported and the Philadelphia Police Department believe the person didn’t even breach the safe part of the ATM, which means, they didn’t get away with any money.

Meanwhile, all Friday, customers stopped by to order at Johnny’s Hots, but found the restaurant closed. Everyone is safe and Johnny’s Hots will open in January.
