Video: Deputies, firefighter rescue elderly man from burning home
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - Body cam footage from Coweta County Sheriff's Deputy Trent Hastings showed the dramatic search and rescue of a 70-year-old man Thursday morning.
Officials told FOX 5, Dennis Renshaw called 911 and told the dispatcher his house was on fire and he was stuck inside.
Authorities rushed to the home. Firefighter Darrell Neese and Deputy Hastings were the first inside.
Officials said heavy smoke filled the house which made it challenging for the deputy and firefighter to navigate their way to Renshaw who was stuck in a hallway.
Firefighter Neese and Deputy Hastings found Renshaw and were able to grab ahold of the more than 300 pound man and dragged him through the kitchen and out the door.
Deputies Andy England and Todd Brown also helped out with the rescue.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Renshaw was taken to an area hospital. No word on his condition. Deputy Hastings and Deputy England were also taken to the hospital, but have since been released.
