Dramatic video shows a man being rescued Thursday from the rain-swollen Los Angeles River by firefighters in the Atwater Village area.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received a call around 10 a.m. about a man found clinging to a tree in the river, just south of Colorado Boulevard.

A water team from the fire department was deployed and found the man holding onto a tree. A helicopter was able to successfully hoist the man up to safety.

He was described as being "hypothermic" and taken to a nearby hospital.

The storm moving into Southern California brought rain to the area Thursday, resulting in the threat of mudslides in wildfire burn areas and multiple traffic accidents.
