Volunteers work to solve feral cat problem at local park

LANGHORNE, PA (WTXF) - An animal rescue group is doing its part to clean up a cat community in Bucks County that has gotten out of hand.

Some 400-hundred cats have been living at Core Creek Park in Langhorne, and animal rights advocates say that population has ballooned over the past ten years.

People are feeding them and building shelters for them, but those efforts only attract more strays, bring more kittens, and have brought a strong smell of urine to some areas of the park.

Some have been illegally dumped by their owners, who no longer wanted them.

Volunteers say they're doing everything they can to humanely get those numbers down.

"We're trying to trap all the cats get them spayed, neutered, get them adopted if they are friendly if they're feral, we're trying to find barn homes for them and the county has given us permission to bring some of them back if they are deemed healthy," explained Bryn Donnelly of Animal Lifeline.

Volunteers also say they're working to prevent the spread of disease among the cat colonies at the park.

The group has no intentions of euthanizing any healthy cats.
