WATCH: Florida gas station clerk disarms robbery suspect

A Florida gas station clerk took matters into his own hands when he was being held at gunpoint by a robbery suspect.

Brevard County Sheriff's deputies say a man walked into the store with a gun demanding money around 11 p.m. Jan. 26. Seconds later, surveillance video shows the clerk, who deputies say is a military veteran who did multiple tours in Iraq, fighting back and disarming the suspect.

The suspect fled the store and got into the passenger side of a maroon, older model four-dour car with a white top, deputies said. "Although I never encourage our citizens to actively engage criminals over money or personal possessions, I bet this criminal thinks twice before taking on a U.S. Veteran again!" the sheriff said on the Brevard County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page.

The sheriff's office said the gun turned out to be a black and brown replica revolver-style air-soft gun.

Deputies are now looking for the suspect described as a white male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, between 19 and 22-years-old.
