Water main break on Route 70 in Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WTXF) - Bitter cold temperatures are wreaking havoc on pipes across the region.

Water gushed onto Route 70 in Cherry Hill Wednesday morning, turning the road into a sheet of ice and creating a traffic headache for drivers.

Police say a leak was reported Monday evening and kept an eye on it, noticing it was slowly getting worse.

New Jersey American Water crews were on the scene early Tuesday morning monitoring the situation.

Freezing temperatures has the ground frozen solid, creating a challenge for crews who need to get underground to make repairs.

Drivers traveling eastbound should expect delays.
