PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - "The Hunt for Red October" started Thursday.
Phillies fans packed into Citizens Bank Park with hopes of a World Series title dancing in their heads.
With a brand new line-up full of new names, the Phillies Faithful agree that it has been a long time since there has been this much excitement on Opening Day.
"The excitement in this ballpark gets electric right near Opening Day," said one fan.
A sellout crowd of 44,469 were all eager to see Bryce Harper's first cuts in a Phillies uniform, but it was Andrew McCutchen who stole the show. The former N.L. MVP blasted a home run in his first at-bat of the season.
A few innings later, Mikhail Franco tattooed a pitch over the fence for a three run shot.
Then in the 7th, with the bases loaded, Rhys Hoskins put a ball into the seats for a grand slam.
"We actually do have a line-up, they spent a little bit of money so they can actually play a little ball," said one fan.
While Bryce Harper's breakout moment in Philadelphia will have to wait just one more day, some Phillies fans have nothing but time to wait and be patient.
"Harper is here for 13 years, my daughter is only one, so she's going to grow up for the next 13 years knowing Bryce Harper so we thought it was important she be here for Opening Day," said a prudent father.
After nine innings, the Phillies blew out the Atlanta Braves 10-4 and sent the fans home happy.
