Woman killed in Philadelphia hit-and-run fell into roadway: police

Investigators say a young woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood.

The deadly crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Front Street and Hunting Park Avenue, according to police.

Investigators say the victim, 24-year-old Tahtiana Diggs, was rushed to Temple University Hospital where she died.

Philadelphia Police Captain Mark Overwise told reporters that Diggs was in a parked car on the northbound side of the road with her two sisters. When Diggs exited the vehicle, investigators believe she fell into the southbound lanes and was fatally struck.

"The details are a little unclear, but it appears that as she exited the vehicle for some reason she fell," Overwise said during a Thursday press conference.

Authorities say there were no security cameras in the immediate area of the crash, but video gathered from nearby cameras shows a small light-colored SUV and pickup truck driving south on Front Street when the crash happened.

No vehicle fragments were left at the crime scene, making it hard for investigators at this time to determine which vehicle they believe struck Diggs. Overwise told reporters it's possible that both vehicles hit her.

Overwise believes it is possible those driving the suspected vehicle(s) did not even realize they hit the woman.

Police officials stated Friday, a driver of a gray Kia heard about the fatal accident, went to a Philly Police district and is cooperating with the investigation. Police are still searching for the driver of the pick-up truck.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact police.
