SEATTLE (WTXF/STORYFUL) - A 71-year-old woman is finally safe after going hiking in Washington's Olympic National Park but not being seen until a week later -- and her dog was with her the whole time.
According to the Peninsula Daily News, Sajean E. Geer's terrier-Chihuahua mix was discovered with her and FOX affiliate KCPQ reports she told her rescuers she survived by drinking water she'd found.
The Coast Guard says its aircrew helped local responders medically evacuate them.
Sunday evening, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles hoisted Geer, who reportedly suffered from dehydration and fatigue, and safely transferred her to awaiting medical personnel at the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound watchstanders say they'd gotten a call at about 5 p.m. from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, an inland search and rescue coordinator, asking for transportation help.
Rangers with the U.S. National Park Service had found her about 10 miles south of Port Angeles, after crews searched for her for nearly a week.
Luckily, Geer hiker had no reported injuries other than the fatigue and dehydration.
