Woman thrown to floor, robbed inside Olney deli

PHILADELPHIA, PA (WTXF) - A woman is threatened, thrown to the floor and robbed inside a local deli.

Police are now searching for the gunman.

Police say the robber got away with the woman's handbag and a lot more.

FOX 29's Dave Schratweiser reported live at Philadelphia Police Headquarters.

Store owner Bun Eap wasn't sure what to think when he saw a man enter his store and throw his arms around a female customer. A second or two later, he heard the woman scream she'd been robbed. It turns out, the guy with the big hug also had a gun.

"The lady say he robbed her, then I take a look at the camera and then I see it," Eap said.

Police say it happened inside the Angel Spirit Deli on Rising Sun Avenue in Olney. As surveillance cameras rolled, the suspect walked into the store and grabbed the 22-year old woman at the counter, then threw her to the ground.

The robber scooped up the woman's belongings, along with her cell phone and took off. Police say as the suspect fled the scene, he quickly located the victim's black Honda Accord, and drove off in it.

"We're currently looking for the vehicle and hopefully it will be found shortly. The main thing obviously was that she wasn't hurt, "Philadelphia Police Capt. Malachi Jones said.

Customers inside the store on Tuesday told FOX 29 there are few if any problems here because the owner has cameras everywhere.

"She's thinking she's getting a hug, next thing you know a gun is pulled on her. Of course she going to drop everything. And they get her car too. That's ridiculous man, Rick Martinez said.

Owner Bun Eap says he installed 28 surveillance cameras and bullet proof glass to protect his customers and himself. He's hoping someone recognizes the suspect and turns him in.

"I really hope they get the guy. Justice served," Eap said.
