Young mom puts son on school bus, gets killed seconds later

(INSIDE EDITION) - A 25-year-old Long Island mother was killed when an out-of-control car jumped a curb and slammed into her, right after she'd put her son on the school bus.

Skye Brunetti had said goodbye to her son moments before the car came barreling down on her around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, police said. The car also hit a utility pole.

The woman was walking back to her home in East Islip, New York. She was pronounced dead at the scene, said fire officials. The driver is in the hospital in serious condition.

Brunetti's dog was also killed, reports the New York Post.

A GoFund Me Page has been set up to cover the mom's funeral costs. According to the page, Brunetti was a single mom whose son "was the world to her, and she was loved by many."

The investigation is still ongoing.

"Wonderful mother, did everything for her son," said her friend Angela Abbatiello, according to ABC News. "She was always there for her son. She stayed home. She did what she had to do as a parent. She was great."
