76ers pick up 2018-19 contract options for reserves McConnell, Holmes

The Philadelphia 76ers are keeping two members of their team in town for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

On Wednesday the team announced they had exercised contract options for backup point guard T.J. McConnell and reserve center/forward Richaun Holmes.

McConnell has played his way into the hearts of 76ers fans over the last several seasons and stole the show in the team's playoff win against the Boston Celtics when he was inserted into the starting lineup. McConnell also became the first Sixer to record a triple-double off the bench in a February 12 game against the New York Knicks.

McConnell originally signed with the 76ers in September 2015, following a four-year collegiate career at Duquesne and Arizona. Since his NBA debut in 2015-16, no NBA player has recorded more steals in a reserve role than McConnell's 203.

McConnell's 697 assists off the bench over the past three seasons are second in the league behind Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea.

Richaun Holmes also joined the 76ers in 2015 as a second-round pick out of Bowling Green. Holmes has shined at times in his role off the bench showing off his athletic ability to grab rebounds and powerful dunks.
