End of season for Phillies, End of era with Ryan Howard
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF/AP) - Ryan Howard is playing for the last time in the uniform he has worn for so long. The Phillies aren't bringing Howard back.
Saturday, Howard hit a two-run homer, his 382nd for the Phillies. Then, at the urging of fans, Howard stepped to the top of the dugout steps and raised his right hand in appreciation.
In Sunday's season-ending game against the Mets, he's expected to get big ovations from home fans and then man first base for the last time.
According to the Phillies, the team drafted Howard out of Missouri State in the 5th round, way back in 2001.
He made his Major League debut on Sept. 1, 2004.
Now, he's expected to receive a $10 million buyout from the Phillies after the season.
