Howard, fans react to Saturday's beer-bottle throwing incident
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF/AP) - Philadelphia police have confirmed they're looking into an incident at Saturday's Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.
They said in a statement on Sunday: "We are currently investigating a report of a beer bottle being thrown on the field by an individual during yesterday's Phillies game. The bottle landed near Phillies player Ryan Howard, who was heading back to the dugout at the time. The investigation is ongoing."
"I've done too much in this town to have that kind of stuff," Howard told reporters prior to Sunday's game. "If you want to yell out ... that's whatever. But when you start throwing stuff, that's when stuff gets personal."
Fans we talked to at Sunday's game said no one, including Howard, deserves that treatment, and the fan should face charges.
Police are reviewing video, trying to identify the person who threw the bottle.
Howard, who hasn't started the last several games, was used as a pinch hitter with two outs in the ninth inning on Saturday. He grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Phillies 6-3 on Saturday. That was the Phillies' eighth loss in nine games, and 12th of the last 15.
On Sunday, the Phillies scored three home runs in an 8-1 win over the Brewers.
