PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - Despite Tuesday night's loss, which cannot happen like that, this Phillies team is putting together one of their best starts in recent history.
Gabe Kapler has an idea why.
"These guys have gelled very quickly, they've bonded very quickly. Sometimes it takes six months, a year, two years for those relationships to really develop. I think there's something contagious about the energy around here," Kapler said.
Kapler is echoing what players have said since Opening Day, and even spring training.
I remember talking with JT Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen about why they think this team can be special. Their answer was that they have been on the same page since day one.
That's a hard thing to achieve for any team, but a team that brought in so many new pieces. It is impressive, but also part of the character of who they brought in. McCutchen, Realmuto, Bryce Harper, Jean Segura, and David Robertson, they're all all-stars and veterans.
Even though their presence is new, it's the glue this Phillies team needs, and they'll need it after Tuesday's loss.
