A monster storm system has torn through the South and Midwest spawning tornadoes that shredded homes and shopping centers, overturned vehicles and uprooted as people raced for shelter.

The same line of storms impacting the Northeast on Saturday was responsible for the most severe active day this year on Friday, with more than 500 storm reports.

A band was reportedly playing on stage at the time of the collapse.

Last week's tornado destroyed roughly 300 homes and businesses in Rolling Fork and the nearby town of Silver City. The death toll in Mississippi stood at 21. One person died in Alabama, as well.

There will be no more hurricanes named Fiona and Ian, according to officials with the World Meteorological Organization, after last year's hurricane season that wreaked havoc on various communities in the Caribbean, the U.S., and Canada.
