A cold front has descended on the region and stalled, which in turn kicks up the rain and thunderstorm chances, while Debby is still churning along the coast of the Carolinas.

After making landfall as a hurricane in the Big Bend Area near Steinhatchee, Florida, Debby moved into Georgia as a tropical storm.

As the southeastern United States deals with the wrath of Tropical Storm Debby, moisture from that storm is expected to combine with a cold front moving through the area and bring heavy rain Tuesday into Wednesday.

A 13-year-old was crushed to death after a tree downed by Hurricane Debby fell onto a mobile home in Levy County, according to deputies.

The National Hurricane Center says Debby strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday night, with a landfall expected in the Florida Big Bend area on Monday.

Storms began moving through the area around 6 p.m. prompting Severe Thunderstorm warnings in several counties.

Death Valley experienced its warmest month on record with an average temperature of 108.5 degrees.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for most of the area, while the rest of the region will remain under a Heat Advisory Friday. The weekend will be slightly cooler, but Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will all bring a chance of storms.
