Philadelphia weather: Snow falls across region as several inches expected for some areas
PHILADELPHIA - The week is kicking off with a snow day as the white stuff falls across the entire Philadelphia region from morning until evening on Monday.
FOX 29's Weather Authority is tracking the winter storm, which is expected to bring the first significant snowfall of the season. Here's everything you need to know:
Snow timeline
2-4 a.m. Monday: Snow is expected to reach Delaware around 2 a.m. The South Jersey/Philadelphia area should see its first flakes around 4 a.m. Monday.
4 p.m. Monday: Snowfall will begin to taper off around 3-4 p.m. Monday.
7 p.m. Monday: Snowfall will come to an end for portions of the region.
9 p.m. Monday to 2 a.m. Tuesday: An additional wave of snow showers may return to Philadelphia, South Jersey and Delaware as the storm exits the coast.
Snowfall predictions
- Philadelphia: 2 to 4 inches
- North of Philadelphia: Coating to 2 inches
- South Jersey and Delaware: 4 to 6 inches, with some areas possibly seeing 6 to 10 inches
FOX 29's Drew Anderson says that although models show a lot of spread for snowfall amounts, what is for certain is that South Jersey and Delaware will get the most snow from this storm, while the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, upper Bucks, Montgomery, Mercer and Monmouth counties are expected to get the least snow.
School closings
Schools in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, including the School District of Philadelphia, closed Monday due to the winter storm.

Travel disruptions
Amtrak has canceled several train routes in the Northeast region as Philadelphia International Airport is already experiencing several delays and cancelations in response to Monday's snowfall.
Snow preparations
As employees poured last-minute salt over their parking lot along Girard Avenue, drivers ran their last-minute errands and filled up their gas tanks before it became a hassle to do so.
PennDOT is asking people to stay off the roads if traveling is not necessary. Crews have been treating, salting, and brining the roadways since Thursday.
Since it's been awhile, PennDOT has been reminding people that their plows are larger and travel slowly.
Winter Weather Warning
The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Warnings for several counties beginning Sunday night.
Sussex County, Delaware Beaches County and Kent County are under a Winter Weather Warning from 10 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Tuesday.
A warning has been issued for Eastern Chester County, Delaware County, Coastal Atlantic County, Atlantic County, Cape May County, Gloucester County, Camden County, Southeastern Burlington County, Cumberland County, Atlantic Coastal Cape May County, Salem County and New Castle County from 1 a.m Monday to 1 a.m Tuesday.
Other parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania are under a Winter Weather Advisory on Monday from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. Those counties include: Berks County, Eastern Montgomery County, Lower Bucks County, Philadelphia County, Western Chester County, Western Montgomery County, Ocean County, Northwestern Burlington County and Coastal Ocean County.
