Snow Forecast: Nor'easter brings heavy snow, winds, bitter cold to Delaware Valley
PHILADELPHIA - A powerful nor'easter brought gusty winds more than a foot of snow to parts of the area Friday night and into Saturday morning and left behind bitter temperatures.
Snow began tapering off to areas north and west of Philadelphia around 10 a.m. Saturday, and should move out of Philadelphia and New Jersey in the hours to follow. The nor'easter should clear New Jersey by about 2 p.m.
Blizzard Warnings and Winter Weather Watchers and Warnings were all set to expire by 4 p.m.
The National Weather Service has warned that travel in areas under the Blizzard Warning could face difficult travel conditions with blowing snow reducing visibility.
How much snow did we get?
Snow total reports were slightly delayed Saturday morning with blowing snow complicating measurements.
Forecasters had predicted coastal regions of New Jersey and southern Delaware would bear the brunt of the storm with 12-16 inches possible, and more than 16 inches possible near Long Beach Island and Toms River.
By around 9 p.m., Lewes Delaware had already reported a foot a snow, and Cape May, New Jersey wasn't far behind with nearly 11 inches.
Interior parts of New Jersey were forcasted to see between 8-12 inches of snow and Medford had reported 7.5 inches by 9 a.m. and West Deptford had reported more than 5 inches.
Philadelphia and the I-95 corridor were expected to see between 4-8 inchesby the time the storm ended. The Philadelphia International Airport had reported 6 inches by 7 a.m., and Folsom had also reported more than 6 inches. Newtown, Bucks Count reported 6.5 inches.
Areas to the north and west of Philadelphia were only forecasted to see 1-3 inches, and 2 inches were reported in Emmaus, Lehigh County.
Dangerous Wind Chills
Once the snow stops, the Delaware Valley will be dealing with gusty winds and dangerous wind chills as high temperatures aren't expected to make it out of the 20s.
Feels-like temperatures are expected to stay in the single digits for most of the area throughout the day.
Mid-morning feels-like temperatures could go as 3 degrees, with forecasters expecting a warm-up to about 8 degrees during the early afternoon. This evening, those temps should drop back down to less than 5 degrees.
Wind chills below zero are expected in most of the area overnight, with Philadelphia forecasted to see wind chills below zero, and parts of the Poconos possible seeing wind chills of -20.
Sunday's high temperatures aren't forecasted to make it out of the 20s as the cold lingers. Sunday's low is just 10 degrees.
Temperatures should rebound heading into next week with highs in the 30s, 40s, and even 50s by midweek.
