HOPKINS, Minn. (FOX 9) - Two people and one child were found dead in an incident at an in-home daycare in Hopkins, Minnesota Wednesday morning.

Hopkins police say a man, woman and juvenile were found dead after officers responded to a domestic situation at an in-home daycare. Police Chief Brent Johnson said the victims appear to be members of one family and investigators preliminarily believe the deceased man was the perpetrator and took his own life.

What we know:

Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson said officers responded to a report of a stabbing shortly after 9 a.m. at Brown Bear Daycare on the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North. Upon arrival, police found a man, woman and child dead in the home.

There were six other children present in the daycare at the time of the incident. Johnson said no other children were harmed. Officers were able to get all the children out of the home and reunite them with their families.

Brown Bear Daycare in Hopkins was the site of a deadly stabbing Wednesday morning.

Johnson said the victims appear to be members of one family. He said investigators preliminarily believe the deceased 41-year-old man was the perpetrator and took his own life.

Police said later Wednesday afternoon that the perpetrator was the husband of the 41-year-old woman and 7-year-old girl who were killed in Hopkins.

Authorities had no contact with the suspect before the Hopkins stabbing.

There's a large police presence at a home day care in Hopkins, Minnesota, on Wednesday. An officer blocking the scene told FOX 9 reporter Corin Hoggard that the scene is "very volatile." It appears police are trying to reunify families with children at the daycare.

What we know:

Johnson said a parent who arrived to drop off their children was the one to call police. Police believe the parent witnessed the incident.

"There's no worse scenario than this, where you drop off your child to somewhere you think is safe, and you get that phone call," the police chief said. "I think we can all relate, [those] who have children and those who don't. This is just a tragic situation anywhere in the world, let alone here in Hopkins."

Local perspective:

Police have blocked off Tyler Street between 2nd Street and Lake Street as the investigation is underway.

There is now a crime scene investigation vehicle at the scene. There were also multiple police agencies and an ambulance at the scene.

Burnsville homicide believed to be connected

What we know:

Burnsville police are investigating a homicide they believe to be connected to the incident at Brown Bear Daycare. Police do not believe there is a threat to the public.

Authorities responded at around 12:30 p.m. to a residence in the area of Maple Island Road and Joplin Avenue on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found a woman dead inside.

Police said in an afternoon press conference that the 78-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed is believed to be a close family relation to the Hopkins woman who was killed.

A family member notified police about the stabbing in Burnsville. Police say they had no contact with the suspect before both stabbings, and Burnsville police has not responded to that home previously.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is delivering a budget address on Wednesday, but started his speech reacting to the news that two adults and a child were found dead inside a Hopkins daycare. Frey says the city will provide any support and resources needed to the city.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released a statement regarding the Hopkins in-home daycare incident:

"We’re aware of this morning’s tragic and devastating incident in Hopkins and are working with Hopkins Police as they investigate. Our office’s victim services division is prepared to support the individuals impacted by this incident. We will provide further updates when available."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey addressed the tragedy ahead of his budget address Wednesday morning:

"I know that our hearts and our prayers are with the people of Hopkins and any families that have been impacted. I have already touched base directly with Hanlon and offer any assistance we can provide. The City of Minneapolis stands with Hopkins. We are not strangers to crisis, and when it takes place, we work together. That’s exactly what we’ll be doing here," Frey said.

Frey said the City of Minneapolis will provide any assistance and resources that Hopkins needs.
