Agents confiscate shipment of marijuana disguised to look like carrots

They might have looked like carrots on the outside - but hidden on the inside was nearly 2500 pounds of marijuana.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Texas discovered the hidden drugs on January 10th, concealed within a commercial shipment of fresh carrots.

"Once again, drug smuggling organizations have demonstrated their creativity in attempting to smuggle large quantities of narcotics across the U.S./Mexico border," said Port Director Efrain Solis Jr.

Officers removed and seized a total of 2,817 carrot-shaped packages of alleged marijuana which carry an estimated street value of $499,000.
