Delaware man arrested after multiple store thefts

BROOKSIDE, DE (WTXF) - A man captured on surveillance video committing multiple crimes has been arrested after members of the public helped identify him.

36-year-old Michael Keenan was taken into custody by New Castle County Police after police executed a search warrant at his residence in Brookside.

On January 19, officials responded to a Walgreens in Brookside Shopping Center after reports of a theft. The male suspect reportedly entered the store, walking around for a significant amount of time.

At some point, the male went behind one of the counters where a cash register was located and forced it open, taking cash that was inside.

The male was confronted by store employees and then ran towards the rear of the shopping center.

Then, on January 27, officials responded to the Dollar General in the same shopping center after reports of a theft.

Employees told police that a white male suspect wearing a blue zipped-up hooded sweatshirt, a green winter hat on his head, blue jeans, and tan boots forced a cash register open and stole money.

The suspect was reported to wear a black and white scarf that was wrapped around him facial area.

Next, on February 28, early in the morning, officials responded again to the Dollar General for reports of a burglary alarm. When they arrived, they found a shattered front glass door and the investigation showed that the suspect had stolen multiple packs of cigarettes.

After looking at surveillance footage, the suspect could be seen shattering the door and entering multiple times. He was wearing jeans, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and a blue cloth covering his face.

Officer First Class D. Vucci - who has been investigating the case since the first incident - was provided with two tips identifying the suspect earlier this month.

On Friday, the officer wrote and executed a search warrant at Keenan's residence and during the search found evidence that linked Michael to all three incidents.

Keenan was arrested and charged with one count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, one count of burglary in the third degree, one count of attempted burglary in the third degree, three counts of misdemeanor theft, one count of attempted misdemeanor theft, and three counts of criminal mischief.

He was booked in lieu of $23,500 secured bail, and was also issued a no contact order with Walgreens, Dollar General, and all of Brookside Shopping center.
