Light snow prompts South Jersey residents to stock up ahead of probable significant snowfall Monday

Light snowflakes in downtown Millville. Light as in LED.

It is a beautiful sight, but what Mother Nature delivered Friday night was not as impressive. Snow flurries fell lightly, leaving behind a coating.

Still, trucks salted parking lots for businesses and customers.

Earlier, trucks salted major roads in the area and it was just a glimpse of winter weather and what's forecasted Sunday night into Monday, when accumulation is likely.

"I actually went to Lowe’s first and then on the way back I saw 10 percent off at Big Lots," said Jonathan White, as he loaded two shovels into his car he got a good deal on. He did not need them Friday night, but he is thinking ahead.

"I’m like, let me restock up now because last time I came, it was kind of too late. I could not find anything anywhere. So, this year I am going to be a little bit more prepared," he said.

Philadelphia snow forecast: Friday flurries lead to winter storm on Monday with measurable snow

A dusting of snow on Friday serves as the preview to a much larger winter storm days later that could dump several inches on parts of the Philadelphia area.

Officials say now is the time to get ready for winter, which might actually show up this year.

"People have the weekend. Take the time to prepare not just for Monday but for all winter season. Pack your vehicle emergency kit and forget about it," said Jana Tidwell a spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

That is what the Ludlams were doing at Home Depot.

"Wood pellets and some salt," said Rebeccas Ludlam as her husband David loaded the car.

"I thought I had salt left over but apparently I don't. Our walk freezes up, so I have to make sure my wife stays safe," said David.

Message boards along Route 55 through South Jersey warned people of the weather and driving, which is also an important reminder come Monday when many who had a long holiday are back to work and school. Some are looking forward to a real snowfall though.

"I think people are excited for it. Like, you know, they've been waiting for it. Like yeah finally let us go. Day off from school. Day off from work. Hit me with it," said Rebecca.
