Man arrested following domestic stabbing in Newark

A man has been arrested following a domestic related stabbing in Newark.

Early Saturday morning at about 3:00 a.m. Newark Police arrived at a residence on Kershaw Street following reports of a domestic related stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers say that they discovered the suspect, Wayne E. Carter Jr. had fled before they arrived.

Officers say they found that a 24-year-old female victim had suffered hours of abuse inflicted by her estranged boyfriend. The victim was staying a friend's home on Kershaw Street when Carter entered the home.

According to the press release, he held the victim in the home for several hours and repeatedly assaulted her, including stabbing her in the arm.

The press release states that eventually the victim convinced him to leave and she called the police.

The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Carter was arrested by Wilmington Police at his home, arraigned at JP 11, and committed to Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $227,100 cash bail.

Neither the victim nor the suspect are associated with the University of Delaware.
