Man arrested in Bensalem break-in, sexual assault

The man wanted for a break-in and sexual assault in Bucks County is under arrest, Tuesday morning.

The Bensalem Township Police Department reports Derrick Anderson, 21, was arrested early in the morning.

Police say Anderson is homeless and was found in an abandoned vehicle parked in Philadelphia.

He is being charged with burglary, indecent assault and related offenses, and will be arraigned later Tuesday morning.

Monday, police said at about 5am Saturday, a man got into an apartment at Lafayette Gardens in the 500 block of Bristol Pike through an unlocked door or window, while the woman living there and her daughter were asleep.

That's when the woman got up, saw the intruder, and they struggled.

Police say she tried to get him out, but was sexually assaulted. He ended up getting away on foot.

For the single mother victimized, it was the fight of her life and a fight to protect her 10-year-old daughter.

"He was holding me; had his arms around me so that I could not move," she said.

It took everything she had to ward off a man police say broke into her condo early Saturday morning and sexually assaulted the woman.

"My daughter woke up, made a sound that frightened him enough started him so I could get some leverage and was able to push him to get him out the door," she told FOX 29.

The victim, who asked us to conceal her identity, explained "I was fighting to make sure my daughter was safe," she explained. "That was my only thought. Everything was pure instinct."

"I'm sorry for her and her family, scary. Daughter was home, too. Very scary," a neighbor said .

Bensalem investigators say they got video from a nearby gas station at around the time of the assault.
