Nearly 30 cats rescued from dilapidated home in Philadelphia

A shocking discovery led to the rescue of dozens of cats in Philadelphia last week.

ACCT Philly says fire crews responded to reports of a deceased person to find an "overwhelming" number of cats living in the home.

Photos posted by the animal rescue organization depict a run-down home, filled with trash and ripped furniture.

"We understand this situation is difficult to see and read. It serves as a reminder that life can be complex and layered in ways we may not always understand. We kindly ask for your compassion and respect for the grieving family members during this challenging time," ACCT Philly said.

Animal Protection Officers were able to safely catch 27 cats and transport them back to the shelter to get ready for adoption.

Traps were also set up inside the home to catch any remaining cats.
