New Jersey is adding a new area code in 2018

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (WTXF) - Changes are coming to New Jersey's area code in 2018. Rather, a new one is to be added.

640 is the new overlay area code that New Jersey will be adding. The state is running out of phone numbers using the area code 609.

The new area code is going to be used in the region between Trenton and Cape May.

The change will officially take place January 20th.
