Philadelphia weather: Wintry mix with frigid temperatures kicks off holiday weekend
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia drivers will have to navigate a sloppy start to the holiday travel season on Friday as a clipper system brings a wintry mix with blustery cold temps.
Forecasters expect Philadelphia and places along the I-95 corridor to straddle the rain-show line, while areas in South Jersey and Delaware will see only rain.
The most significant snowfall will happen in areas north of the city, including the Poconos where forecasters expect anywhere between 1-3 inches of snow.
The December clipper will hit Philadelphia by late morning with light rain that will change to slushy snow as temperatures drop throughout the day.
Forecasters don't expect much, if any, accumulations of snow from the clipper system.
Highs in Philadelphia and surrounding areas will linger in the upper 30s, signaling a temperature change that will pair with chilling wind gusts on Saturday.
FOX 29's Sue Serio says lows this weekend will be some of the coldest temperatures we've experienced since January, with highs only reaching the 20s and 30s.
Intense wind chills will make temperatures feel like the teens and single digits over the weekend.
A deceivingly sunny Monday will come with below-freezing temperatures, before a slight warm-up for Christmas when temps return to the 40s.
