Philly coalition pushes Congress for Puerto Rico relief

A local coalition in Philadelphia is urging Congress to provide additional aid to hurricane-battered Puerto Rico as the island continues to grapple with recovery efforts.

In a press conference Monday, Philadelphia Councilwoman María Quiñones-Sánchez -- along with local coalition Unidos Pa' PR -- spoke to the current state of affairs in Puerto Rico.

During the press conference, members of the coalition signed a letter to Congress requesting more financial aid as the island continues to struggle with quality of life issues post-Hurricane Maria. The coalition also noted that proposed changes to the tax code could negatively impact Puerto Rico's economy.

According to the coalition, additional funds will be dispersed to a new mobile clinic collaborative, with resources distributed to 2,000 families adopted by Unidos.
