Police in Berks County investigate tire thefts

Berks County, Pa. (WTXF) Police in Berks County are investigating tire thefts.

Crystal Brendle walked to her carport behind her Shillington home, about to leave for work, and suddenly knew that she wasn't going anywhere.

"I saw my tire was gone, and then I looked around and saw there were cinder blocks there. No tires. No tires at all," she told FOX 29.

Her truck now sits in the carport because her brand new Toyota Camry is in the shop and her husband says the bill won't be cheap.

Someone stole all four tires and police are fairly certain the culprits weren't just some mischievous kids.

"It's been compared to a NASCAR pit crew, in and and out of there in a hurry," police said.

A criminal ring, scoping locations in advance, and then showing up with high end tools, and their own cinder blocks, according to police.

Gary says police told him, "They're well organized and they're in and out in two or three minutes and they don't make a noise."

Gary posted his aggravation on Facebook, and of the nearly 70 friends who responded, three said, they too, recently had tires stolen.

Dave Horrigan, of Tom Masado Mitsubishi, recommends a $50 investment in a lug nut locks, wishing one of his own cars had them. It also had its wheels stolen right off the lot Wednesday night.

He figures it's a $4,000 loss. Foreign cars with expensive allow wheels are usually the target.

In the end, finding the people behind these stolen tires is pretty hard to do. So far, no arrests in either of these cases.
