A stolen vehicle suspect who drove on the wrong side of the road and clipped other cars during a chase through parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties finally surrendered in Long Beach, almost 90 minutes after deputies began pursuing him.

The chase started about 2:30 p.m. in Downey, near Lakewood Boulevard and Gallatin Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

At one point, the suspect -- who was seen holding what appeared to be a gun -- ran from the white pickup truck he was driving, only to circle back to the vehicle and speed off again, according to Deputy Joanna Warren of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The chase was called off due to the suspect's dangerous driving, but resumed again in the Buena Park area.

About 3:50 p.m., the suspect slowed to a stop on Pacific Coast Highway near Anaheim Place, got out of the pickup truck and surrendered.

It was not immediately clear if a gun was recovered.
