Report: Justin Timberlake to perform at Super Bowl halftime
(KMSP) - Justin Timberlake is reportedly finalizing a deal to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium next year.
Us Weekly is reporting that the 36-year-old singer has been asked to perform at the NFL championship in Minneapolis on Feb. 4. He is currently at work on his fifth studio album.
"He's got hit song after hit song after hit song," said Paul Fletcher, the music director at Cities 97 radio station. "Dude, in my opinion, he's our modern day Michael Jackson."
It has been 13 years since Timberlake's controversial halftime performance with Janet Jackson, where he pulled part of Jackson's costume off at the end of "Rock Your Body." The 2004 performance is what prompted the five-second broadcast delay during live performances that exists today.
"I'm kinda surprised they've asked him to come back," said Raven, a KDWB DJ. "Thought blacklisted, done. I know the way the entertainment industry works, but he's learned his lesson."
Super Bowl officials have yet to confirm who will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. No word either from the Host Super Bowl Committee. They're focused this week on picking their team of 10,000 volunteers who will greet and interact with fans during all of the Super Bowl festivities.
