School Board Member Thinks This 'Muppets' Book Is 'Too Graphic' for Kindergartners

Wisconsin (FOX NEWS) A Wisconsin school board member is demanding a Muppets children's book be banned because it depicts too many world struggles, like poverty, violence and homelessness.

The book "For Every Child a Better World," published in 1993 and authored by late Muppets creator Jim Henson, is meant to teach young children about the plight of other children who lack basic necessities in other parts of the world, according to Amazon.

Kermit the Frog appears on the pages, saying lines like "Every child needs food to eat ... But sometimes there isn't enough to go around."

But Marshfield School Board member Mary Carney wants the book taken off the town's kindergarten curriculum because she's afraid it would be traumatizing for five-year-olds.

"I just have concerns that it's too graphic, even though these are Muppets characters," Carney told USA Today. "Unfortunately in this world there is a lot of war and strife and poverty. I understand that. I just don't know how appropriate that is to be teaching that to 5-year-olds."
