Train service resumes through Center City stations
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Train service has resumed through Center City stations after an issue during the Wednesday evening commute.
SEPTA says it was a breaker on the train running the Paoli-Thorndale line that was tripped that caused the unusual scene.
From the inside, it sounded like a loud bang and a flash.
"Sounded like an immediate explosion. The train came to an immediate halt," one passenger told FOX 29.
Then that passenger says when it happened a second time, someone up front yelled fire and panic set in.
"There was no communication whatsoever by SEPTA and people started pulling the windows out, the rubber seals around the window, and jumping out of the car."
SEPTA says there was no fire and while they're not sure what announcements were made to the 500 passengers or how quickly there was never an announcement to leave.
"We don't evacuate anyone that's not in imminent danger. We won't evacuate them until we have the proper personnel in place and those personnel include police officers and transit supervisors," SEPTA's Scott Sauer said.
The passengers did eventually get back on the train and were transferred to another train more than an hour later.
