WATCH: Tasmanian devil gets pacemaker
SAN DIEGO, CA (WTXF/STORYFUL) - San Diego Zoo's resident Tasmanian devil, Nick, has been given a second go at life.
During a routine medical check in January, vets found Nick was suffering a heart condition causing his heart to beat slowly.
Then, three weeks ago, they installed a pacemaker in him. Zoo officials say the operation was the second of its type on a devil.
Wednesday, they released him back into his enclosure. Up next for Nick: a checkup in three to six months.
Tasmanian devils are an endangered species due to a facial tumour that has wiped out 90 percent of their population.
