Snow Preparations

Plan to encounter slippery road conditions Monday morning and evening commutes.

According to the NWS, if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.

Though folks usually think of jumper cables and first aid kits as vehicle emergency kits, AAA officials are encouraging folks to load up on other items to keep in your car.

"Make sure you have a portable collapsible snow shovel in case you need to dig out from somewhere," said Jana Tidwell, AAA Public Affairs. "That snow brush and ice scraper to clean off your car thoroughly before you start driving, plenty of washer fluid and deicer spray that salt and brine builds up quickly on our windshield, we a lot of that in the winter driving season rock salt, and kitty litter in case you need some additional traction under your tires."

Even though you might not end up using all these items for this storm, AAA says it’s important to always be prepared.

PennDOT is asking people to stay off the roads Monday if you can.

PennDOT had crews out treating, salting and brining the roads Sunday. PennDOT officials say crews will report back Monday starting at midnight and will be working through the storm.

Their high priorities are the interstates and expressways.
