Mystery man feeds 150 families this Thanksgiving

AMBLER (WTXF) - A Montgomery County mystery man and his dedicated team of volunteers spent Saturday dropping off bags of Thanksgiving groceries to feed 150 needy families.

The anonymous donor told Fox 29's Jennifer Joyce, "We started the first year in 2008 with 30 families….this year we're at 150 families, 3,000 pounds of turkey, $22,000 worth of groceries."

At Wissahickon Fire Company in Ambler, Pa., the recipient of these holiday meals is the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund, which coordinates grocery drop-offs to families, most of whom are caring for sick children.

Social workers, like, Mary Berlin, who works at an Easter Seals school in Lansdale, stopped by the fire house to pick up the Thanksgiving groceries and deliver them to her clients.

Berlin says, "It means everything to them. Otherwise, they'd be going to a soup kitchen…this way they can actually have a really nice dinner at home with their kids."

Other bags went to families associated with CHOP, St. Christopher's Hospital and A.I. duPont Hospital in Wilmington, to name a few.

Jennifer Keller, a social worker at duPont works closely with families of critically ill children and says this means the world to her clients. "My families know it's coming," explains Keller. " I told them over the week and they were in tears, so excited about it."

Hundreds of holiday memories will be made this Thanksgiving, thanks to people, like, our mystery man and his company who decided to ditch traditional holiday presents for clients and, instead, use the money to give back: to pack car-fulls of food and work with organizations, like, the Dolan Foundation, to provide priceless family moments around the dinner table to those less fortunate.
