Thieves Steal from Disabled Veteran in Georgia
CONYERS, Ga. (WAGA) - A local disabled veteran is now without transportation after thieves stole all four wheels from her truck.
Latarrie Bateman told FOX 5 the crime happened overnight Friday in her driveway on Shale Lane in Conyers. She said she was preparing to take her children to school when she realized what had occurred. Bateman estimated the repair will cost her around $3,000.
"My plates say 'disabled veteran' and for me to work so hard to serve my country and then someone does this to me and my family? I was more hurt than angry," Bateman said.
Bateman said she is a single mother on a fixed income. She's been putting up flyers around her neighborhood in hopes that they'll lead to the thieves. Bateman said police believe the criminals got away in white vehicle. Until there's an arrest, she plans to stay home. Bateman is too afraid to leave her home to visit family out of town for Thanksgiving.
"Go down and then come back and you realize something worse has happened," she said.
